Twitter Starting to Release Data to Third Parties

Explore Houston on Twitter I ran across an interesting article about Twitter releasing its fire hose of data to third parties. Twitter is one of those Internet phenomena with massive growth but no profits. The service is free to all users, individuals and businesses alike. On the other hand, Twitter is being used very effectively by online marketers and offline businesses to drive traffic to websites and brick & mortar stores.

Social Media–Small Business Slow to Adopt Social Media

According to Small Business Trends, small businesses are slow to adopt social media. A recent study reports: “In fact, 86 percent said they don’t use social media sites to get advice or information. Instead, they’re relying on search engines.”

I agree with the conclusion that businesses are unsure of the benefit of utilizing social media. Either they ignore it altogether or they put a “toe in the water” and thus ensures a poor result. SEO Tips for On-Site Optimization

I ran across a good article by Kevin Gibbons listing 21 On-Site SEO Tips that can serve as a checklist for checking your blog or website for proper search engine optimization. Although, a simple blog post can never do justice to the detailed subject of SEO, a checklist can serve a good reminder of subjects you have already studied in depth.

This checklist covers such topics as Title tags, Meta description tags, Headings, Internal linking, Keyword usage, Keyword density and Images. In terms of SEO, On-Site is just one of four areas that need attention. The other three include technical issues such as fixing broken links and proper indexing protocols, On-Page SEO such as the titles of the pages and posts and duplicate content, and External Linking or having your key pages linked to on other authority websites.

For any keyword or phrase, there are 10 non-paid spots on the first page of Google and competition for those spots is fierce. If you do not have an SEO (search engine optimization) strategy, you only have two chances of your website being in one (or more) of those top spots–slim and none.

If you do not provide some sign posts, it is like going into a multi-story office building to find who the tenants are without a directory and without signs on the doors.
