Twitter is rolling out a new feature called Twitter Local Trends. As with all new features, not every user gets added on day one. So if you don’t have it yet, be patient; it’s coming. Another thing to keep in mind is that only a few locations around the world have been added so far, so unless you live in a major city, you will have to wait until your location is added.

I ran across an interesting article about Twitter releasing its fire hose of data to third parties. Twitter is one of those Internet phenomena with massive growth but no profits. The service is free to all users, individuals and businesses alike. On the other hand, Twitter is being used very effectively by online marketers and offline businesses to drive traffic to websites and brick & mortar stores.

Social Media–Small Business Slow to Adopt Social Media

According to Small Business Trends, small businesses are slow to adopt social media. A recent study reports: “In fact, 86 percent said they don’t use social media sites to get advice or information. Instead, they’re relying on search engines.”
I agree with the conclusion that businesses are unsure of the benefit of utilizing social media. Either they ignore it altogether or they put a “toe in the water” and thus ensures a poor result. On the other hand, small businesses that have embraced social media as they have the search engines, are benefiting from this additional traffic funnel.
